Search

This option takes your search criteria and returns a list of corresponding granules. You may then select granules from the list, enter your order information, and order. Items with asterisks (*) are required fields.

1. Enter dates and times for temporal coverage.

2. Enter a data set short name or select a data set from the pull-down menu. Both short and long names are listed in the pull-down menu. The number following the short name represents the version. Users should work with the latest version available (currently version 4).

3. Enter the maximum number of granules you want returned.

4. Enter a maximum time limit for the search.

5. Enter the spatial coverage.

SNOWI only works with gridded MODIS data. Climate Modeling Grid (CMG) data are global but not tiled, so spatial parameters are not required for these data sets. Sinusoidal and Polar grids are tiled, so spatial parameters are required for these data sets. Enter the spatial coverage in the Java-based panel or enter known tile values in the text fields near the bottom of the page. (Please wait until the Java applet has completely loaded before selecting the button to enter tile values. If you enter values before the map finishes loading, they will get reset to 0 when you press "Search.")

Notice that when you select a data set from the pull-down menu (Step #2), the Java panel automatically refreshes with the corresponding grids for that data set. For example, if you select MOD10A2-3, the only available grid is sinusoidal ("MODIS SIN") at 1:160, 1:100, or 1:80 scales.

Each time you select a grid and scale and click "Show Grid," a small window appears with the grid you selected. You can then click and drag your mouse across the map to select a box that encompasses your spatial coverage. The latitude and longitude bounding coordinates in the Java panel automatically refresh to show the region you selected. Click the "Show Tiles" button at the bottom of the page to display the corresponding tile numbers.

If you already know the tile numbers for the region you are interested in, you can enter these in the fields near the bottom of the page. Sinusoidal and Polar grid maps are provided to help you select the appropriate tiles.

6. Click "Search." The "Search in Progress" page displays your search criteria, followed by a "Results" page. Look for a status message that says "Successful query Query results returned." At this point, you can either perform a new search, or proceed with the order.

7. Enter order options.

SNOWI is restricted to FTP orders only. The information you provide for the FtpPush option is NOT secure. Please use an anonymous FTP site as the push destination, or change your password immediately after the data push.

This page lists the granules that satisfied your search criteria. If you prefer, you can follow the link for the ASCII text version of the results list and print it for your records. Select the granules you want to order, enter a time limit in minutes, and finally, FTPPush or FTPPull.

If you specify FtpPull, you will be notified by e-mail when your data are staged. The e-mail message will also contain the FTP address and directory information you need to transfer the data to your computer. If you prefer to have the data sent to your local computer via FTP (FTPPush), enter your host name, full path of destination directory, user name, and password.

8. Finally, enter your contact information and click "Order." The "Order in Progress" page appears, followed by the "Results" page. The Status Message should read as follows:

Thank you for your order. An email notification will be sent when order processing has been completed. Order processing typically takes several hours to several days. Large orders may take longer.

Search and Order

This option allows you to enter search and order information, and automatically order every granule that meets the search criteria. This saves you the extra step of selecting specific granules from a long list of results. Items in asterisks (*) are required fields. Enter your search criteria, contact information, and order preferences, as outlined above in the Search section. Finally, click the "Search and Order" button at the bottom of the page. The "Order in Progress" page appears, followed by the "Results" page. The Status Message should read as follows:

Thank you for your order. An email notification will be sent when order processing has been completed. Order processing typically takes several hours to several days. Large orders may take longer.

Order

This option bypasses search criteria altogether. It is the quickest method of ordering data, but you must know the granule IDs you want to order. An example granule ID is "SC:MOD10A1.004:123456." Paste these IDs, one per line, in the text field. Items with asterisks (*) are required fields. Select the corresponding data sets from the pull-down menu, enter your contact information and order preferences as outlined in the Search section above, and click the "Order button" at the bottom of the page.
