Users may search for data in NSIDC's entire online data catalog, for example, using the Advanced Data Search page, or peruse various product lists on our Web site to locate a specific data set or find data sets that may be of interest. The data itself may be accessed using a variety of methods, including downloading files from our FTP server, ordering data on CD, etc. Each data set's catalog Web page provides information about the data access methods that are available for it.

NSIDC also provides some specialized data discovery and access methods. These services, databases, and interfaces help you discover, visualize, access, or search-and-order certain data without searching NSIDC's entire online catalog.

Atlas of the Cryosphere
Dynamic mapping Web site that allows the visitor to explore the Earth’s frozen regions.

GLIMS Glacier Database
Unique inventory of critical information about glaciers, with both a Web mapping service and a text search interface.

MODIS Mosaic of Antarctica (MOA) Image Map
Web-based map server that can create manually-selected JPEG images of the Antarctic continent and surrounding islands.

Virtual Globes
Data-based images overlaid on an interactive virtual globe using Google Earth™.

Glacier Photograph Collection
Searchable database of glacier photographs, including special collections of glacier photograph pairs.

World Glacier Inventory
Searchable inventory of glacier names, number, location, and other information.

Search-and-Order Interfaces

EOS Data Gateway (EDG)
Search for and order data from NSIDC and other Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs). Allows FTP and media distribution, and subsetting capabilities. Browse images are also available via the EDG.

Data Pool
Data Pool is a short-term data cache that provides FTP access to AMSR-E, ICESat/GLAS, MODIS, and NISE products. A simple Web search interface helps you quickly locate data of interest.

Search 'N Order Web Interface (SNOWI)
Search for and order data from NSIDC and other Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs). Unlike the EDG, SNOWI only searches DAAC EOS data and NISE data (plus MOD02, MOD09, and MOD35), and it does not offer subsetting.

MODIS Search 'N Order Web Interface (MODIS-SNOWI)
Search for and order Level-3 gridded MODIS snow and ice data from NSIDC. This interface is easy to use and and features an easy tile search.

Graphical Interface for Subsetting, Mapping, and Ordering (GISMO)
Search for and order gridded data from NSIDC. Search by collection, parameter (channel), date, and area of interest.

Polar Spatial Query (PSQ)
Search for and order orbit and scene data using an orbit model. Search by collection, parameter (channel), date, and region of interest. PSQ produces gridded output data.
