East Antarctic Sea Ice Campaign

The East Antarctic Sea Ice Campaign includes surface, near-surface, and satellite data to validate AMSR-E satellite data.

Dr. Rob Massom of the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems (ACE) Cooperative Research Centre of the University of Tasmania will lead the ship campaign. Field experiments will involve in situ data collection and helicopters equipped with aerial cameras and thermal infrared (IR) radiometers. The campaign will also include modeling and sensitivity studies. The campaign dates are 15 September 2003 to 31 October 2003, with 1 -19 October 2003 dedicated solely to AMSR-E sea ice validation. The red box in the following map shows the coverage area that the ship study will cover.
