Search

This option takes your search criteria and returns a list of all corresponding granules. You may then select granules from the list, enter your order information, and order. Items with asterisks (*) are required fields. Alternately, you can choose to order all corresponding granules automatically instead.

    Dataset Information

  1. Choose the desired Dataset. (See Choosing a Dataset below for more details.)

  2. Enter the maximum number of granules you want returned.

  3. Enter the maximum time limit for the search.

  4. Search Criteria

  5. Enter the dates and times for temporal coverage.

  6. Enter the geographic coordinates you want to search within.

Values are already filled in for a default global search. If you want to perform your own spatial search, remember that longitudes west of the Greenwich Meridian are negative. The search will not complete successfully if latitude and longitude values are in an incorrect order. Please consult a map if you are unsure of the proper bounding coordinates.

  7. Choose whether or not you would like to restrict your search to return only granules which have browse images available. If you select "No", granules returned may or may not have browse images. If you select "Yes", only granules with browse images will be returned; if there are none, "No match found" will be returned.

  8. Choose whether or not you wish to automatically order all results. If you select "No", the results of the search will be returned in a list, where you can enter order information and select the desired granules. If you select "Yes", order information fields will appear on the screen, which must be filled out before the search can be completed. The search will then order all corresponding granules automatically; no list will be displayed. See Order Method below for information on the Order Method field(s).

  9. Press the "Search" button. A "Search in Progress" page will be displayed with your search criteria. When the search is completed, a "Results" page will be displayed. Look for a status message that says "Successful query Query results returned." At this point, you can either perform a new search or, if you did not choose to automatically order all results, proceed with the order. (The remaining steps will assume you did not automatically order all results.)

  10. Search Results

  11. Enter order options.

The results page will list the granules that satisfied your search criteria. For your convenience, a link to an ASCII text version of the results is available for your records. If there is a link called "Image" for a granule, you may click on it to open a new window with the granule's browse image. Check the granules you wish to order from the list.

  12. Fill out Order Method and the User Information, and click "Order." The "Order in Progress" page will be displayed, followed by a "Results" page when the order has been placed. The Status Message will give you further information about the results of the order.

Order

This option bypasses search criteria altogether. It is the quickest method of ordering data, but you must know the Granule IDs or the Granule Filenames that you wish to order. An example Granule ID is "SC:MOD10A1.004:123456"; An example Granule Filename is "MOD10_L2.A2000055.0005.004.2002354200352.hdf". All items with asterisks (*) are required fields.

    Dataset Information

  1. Choose the desired Dataset. (See Choosing a Dataset below for more details.)

  2. Choose the Granule List Type that corresponds with the type of Granule identification you will be using.

  3. Enter the Granule IDs or Filenames, one per line, into the Granule List.

  4. Enter the maximum time limit for the order. (This is the maximum time to allow the order to be processed, not the time for the order to be delivered).

  5. Finish Order Placement

  6. Fill out Order Method and the User Information, and click "Order." The "Order in Progress" page will be displayed, followed by a "Results" page when the order has been placed. The Status Message will give you further information about the results of the order.

Choosing a Dataset

There are a wide variety of Dataset products available from SNOWI. Both the Search page and the Order page have sections to choose the desired Dataset from which to retrieve data.

There are two ways to choose a Dataset. Note that making changes to the "Short Name/ID", "Dataset Title", or "Dataset Version" fields will automatically update the other fields, as appropriate.

  1. Enter the Dataset Short Name/ID. This is often followed by a dash and the version number, though the version number can usually be left off, in which case the most recent version will be selected automatically. An example is MOD10A1-3, which is Version 3 of the MODIS/Terra Snow Cover Daily L3 Global 500m ISIN Grid dataset.

  2. Choose the Dataset Title and Dataset Version from the dropdown lists. First, select the Dataset Title. Doing this will cause the Dataset Version list to be updated with appropriate values for the Dataset selected, with a default selected automatically.

Order Method

SNOWI is restricted to FTP orders only. There are two FTP options available:

  1. FTP Pull - Choosing this method will cause a temporary FTP directory to be created for your order. The ordered granules will be put in this directory, and an email will be sent to you with instructions on how to access the granule files.

  2. FTP Push - This will cause the order to be pushed directly into an FTP directory chosen by you. When this option is selected, you mush enter the FTP Host Name, destination directory, a username to access the directory, and a password.
NOTE!!!! The FTP Push option is NOT SECURE, including the submission of the order in SNOWI. You are strongly encouraged to use an anonymous FTP site as the push destination, or change your password immediately after the data push.
